Smart Home Connect (Pty) Ltd is a South African electronic communications provider licensed by ICASA. This page summarises the legislation and industry frameworks we operate under.

01 — Licensing

ICASA licensed operator

Smart Home Connect (Pty) Ltd is a fully licensed electronic communications provider in the Republic of South Africa, regulated by the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA).

We operate under the Electronic Communications Act (ECA) 36 of 2005 and hold the licences required to provide fixed wireless (WISP), fibre connectivity and related electronic communications services. Licence particulars are available on request.

02 — RICA

RICA compliant onboarding

All new customers are onboarded in line with the Regulation of Interception of Communications and Provision of Communication-Related Information Act (RICA) 70 of 2002.

We verify identity and proof of address before service activation and retain RICA records securely for the periods required by law.

03 — Data protection

POPIA & privacy

We process personal information in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) 4 of 2013. We collect only the information required to provide, bill and support our services and we keep it no longer than necessary.

04 — Cybersecurity

Cybercrimes Act alignment

Our network is operated in line with the Cybercrimes Act 19 of 2020 and applicable ICASA end-user and security regulations. Suspected unlawful activity is reported to the South African Police Service (SAPS) as required by law.

05 — CCTV & surveillance

Responsible CCTV deployment

CCTV installations are configured to comply with POPIA and the Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority (PSIRA) framework where applicable. Recorded footage remains the property of the customer and is only accessible by the customer's authorised users.

Smart Home Connect does not access, view or share customer footage except where legally compelled to do so by a competent authority.

06 — Consumer protection

ICASA end-user code

We adhere to the ICASA End-user and Subscriber Service Charter Regulations and the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008. Service level information, fault reporting and complaint escalation procedures are available on request.

Unresolved complaints may be escalated to ICASA at icasa.org.za.
